Turmeric contains the active ingredient curcumin which is a powerful antioxidant. The component fights the growth of cancer cells. It also blocks development of amyloid plaque. Turmeric regulates triglycerides and insulin levels which enhances the entire cardiovascular system, boosting heart health. Turmeric, used in culinary levels is an anti-inflammatory. This eliminates the side effects found in steroid drugs. Some people believe that multiple sclerosis is warded off by using this common spice.

A major active ingredient in thyme is thymol, a volatile oil. This oil is known for its antimicrobial qualities. In studies, thymol is effective against certain types of food poisoning, staph infections and E. Coli. To improve digestion, as well as to improve the health of your hair and scalp, use this aromatic spice.

In order to prevent nausea and settle the stomach, you might want to consider using ginger. The spice is also effective in preventing the onset of gastric ulcers. Ginger is believed to reduce the onset of menstrual cramps. It relieves muscle pain and the pain of migraine headaches. Ginger is also able to fight osteoarthritis and chronic inflammatory issues.

The association of rosemary with memory has been known for centuries. In ancient Greece, studying for major examinations was accompanied by wearing rosemary in the hair. The component of rosemary called carnosic acid is effective against damage from free-radicals in the brain. The risk of Alzheimer's and stroke is thus lowered. Another component, carnosol has been linked to cancer growth inhibitors.

Healthy spices are easy to obtain. They can be purchased in supermarkets. Because they taste good and enhance the natural flavor of various foods, you can experiment with them in a variety of ways. Used in culinary creations they have no side effects and are known to be a force in preventing or reducing the symptoms of many diseases and conditions.
