The Characteristics Of A Christian Healing Ministry

By Connie Sears

Numerous Christians state that healing for mental or physical disorders is available to those with strong faith. Such individuals often seek out a Christian healing ministry for advice or prayer. Over the years, there have been reports of miracles for those afflicted with heart problems, multiple sclerosis and cancer.

Many Christians believe that all types of miracles are available as they call on the name of Jesus. Indeed, there is a vast array of Scriptures in the New Testament to back up this belief. The latter stems from the fact that when Jesus died on the cross to save the human race from its sins, he also took the infirmities and diseases at that time, and bore them as well. This is obvious in Scriptures such as Matthew 8:16, where the author refers to the fulfillment of Isaiah 53: 4-12, which states that Jesus Christ bore all such maladies on the cross.

In additional Scriptures, including James 5:14, it states that through the laying on of hands miracles occur and people are set free from illnesses and afflictions. No chapter or verse in the New Testament indicates that anyone was ever denied healing if they had faith and believed in God. Particularly the texts of Mark 11:23 and Matthew 21:21 make this very clear.

As one would suspect, miracles go beyond the natural realm. For this reason, numerous ministries tell people not to limit God's based on natural circumstances. Instead, if one's faith is strong, the miracle will come if the afflicted person believes and confesses his or her belief.

Proponents of this doctrine believe the days of miracles have not passed by. A Scripture frequently used to back this up as Hebrews chapter 13, verse 8, which states that Jesus Christ never changes, and therefore the healings He provided in the past, He will provide in the future. In another passage, Acts 10:38, it states that Jesus traveled around healing everyone who was oppressed by the devil or demon. Many Christian state that in today's modern times, such miracles are still available.

Because one's level of faith seriously influences his or her recovery, it is essential for people to refuse to allow unbelievers and naysayers to talk them out of their healing. Many believers state that God only heals certain individuals and not others. However, this way of thinking overlooks another primary Scripture found in the book of Acts, chapter ten, verse thirty-four. This verse tells us that God is not a "respecter of persons". In contemporary language, this means that he will not withhold a benefit from one person while bestowing it on another. Rather the miracle depends on the person's individual faith in the word of God.

It is also essential for one to realize that money or donations does not guarantee a miracle. In fact, a sorcerer named Simon was hotly rebuked in the book of Acts, chapter eight, verse twenty, for trying to buy God's gifts with money. Getting healed has nothing to do with giving money to a specific ministry.

The best choice for someone who is trying to find a Christian healing ministry is a church where the pastor and congregation believe that miracles can happen for anyone. Building one's faith is important, as is refusing to listen to skeptics. Many individuals have received miracles from God, and it is these experiences one should dwell on when waiting for healing of his or her own.
