How To Make Handmade Orthotics

By Nelda Powers

Although it is true that custom made arch support insoles for those who have flat feet must be made by a licensed professional, it is actually possible to make handmade orthotics at home. However, these types should only be made for those whose flat foot condition is not too severe. Basically, the homemade ones can be made for those who have low arches in order to stay safe.

Now if one would want to make a homemade arch support insole, then he would have to buy a few things. Firstly, he will be needing two to three old insoles that would probably come from an old pair of shoes. He has to make sure that the insoles all have the same size.

The next thing that he would have to get would be a glue that is waterproof or better yet, super glue that can really stick. In order to cut up the insoles, one will be needing a pair of really sharp scissors because insoles may be tough to cut. As long as one has these things, then he may start getting to work on that insole.

So after getting the old insoles, one has to now do a bit of measurements. Always do make sure that all insoles have the same size so that it will be easier to place them on each other. So when one puts one insole on top of the other, he has to find the part that holds the arch of the foot.

Once that part has already been found, then the next thing to do would be to cut out that part using the pair of scissors that was acquired earlier. After that, one has to now make sure that the cut part will match the insole, if not, then maybe a bit more cutting will have to be done. Once that has already been done, then one can now glue the cut part to the insole.

After that, one may now leave the glue to dry before he tries to put it into his shoe and start walking. If he wants the glue to dry extremely fast, then he may use an electric fan to be able to help him. For fast drying purposes, one is recommended to use super fast drying glue that really sticks.

In the event that the arch support is still not high enough for the person making it, then he may actually put another insole if he would want. He just has to get the third insole and just do the entire process again. Once he has done that, then he just has to wait for the glue dry and then try it on again.

So as one can see, it is actually very easy to make handmade orthotics at home. However, if one has a really bad condition of flat feet, then it is better that he would just buy a custom made one. However, if he just has a low arch or is an athlete that needs one that will help him in his sports, then a handmade one will already suffice.
