By Linda Ruiz

Learning to swim is extremely important to every person simply because it helps give a person a chance at survival when he is in the water. For instance, if he would be swimming in the beach or taking a cruise, there would be a small chance that an accident may happen and he might be flung into the water where the only way to survive would be to swim. Of course if he would want to learn how to swim, he has to take west chester swim lessons first.

Now the very first lesson that one would be learning when he starts his classes would actually be breathing. The reason as to why this is very important is because when one is in the water, he has to know how to conserve air well so that he does not run out of oxygen. Now for those who do not know, the correct way of breathing would be to inhale using the nose and exhale using the mouth.

Now after learning how to breathe properly, the very next thing that one would have to learn would be how to float. Now this is probably the most important lesson of them all because if one does not know how to float, he will not be able to swim. Now in order to get the hang of floating, one has to tilt his body a little forward to balance himself.

From this position, he will be learning his first swimming move which is known as the gliding stroke. Basically, the gliding stroke is wherein one would be slicing through the water in order to reach the other side of the pool. To execute this move, one simply has to push his feet against a wall in order to launch himself forward.

The very next thing that one would be learning would be the kicking maneuver. Basically, this is one of the most important moves to learn simply because this is the primary way for one to be able to move himself in the water. To do this, one has to simply lie on his stomach and use his both feet to kick the water alternately.

After that, the very next thing that one would learn is the freestyle stroke. Basically, in order to do the freestyle stroke, one would need to use the kicking techniques that he learned earlier in order to move. The only difference here would now be to add a hand movement that would slice through the pool water in order to further propel forward.

Now after learning all of those moves, then the final move that he would have to learn would be the dog crawl. The dog crawl is one of the most crucial moves to learn because it is the easiest to do when one is swimming for his life. To execute it, one has to use his feet to kick the water while his hands are moving in a scooping down motion.

So if one wants to take up some swimming lessons, these are the basic things he would learn. Now after one has finished the basic lessons, then he would be going on to the advanced lessons. The advanced lessons would involve the backstroke, the butterfly stroke, the breast stroke, and others.
