By Marsha Klein

Pool party games for kids are a fabulous way for the kids to enjoy the warmer weather while they get some exercise with family and friends. Planning ahead can help you to keep all of the children busy and limit the possibility of them getting bored.

While some parents will just encourage the youngsters to play the activities, it can be even more appealing to the children if there are prizes for the winners at the completion of each game. Prizes do not need to be costly to be lots of fun. Often, you can find some great choices at simple discount shops.

Though you are certainly free to choose any type of prize that you like, it can be even more fun to choose prizes that are summer or water theme related. Shovels and sand pails, swim masks and water balloons are just a few items to consider when you are thinking of prizes for the winners.

There are countless activities one can play while swimming in the water these days. Basketball is often a first choice for most water game theme days but, you might also find your guests enjoy tennis or even golf among many other fabulous games. You can buy many different activities at a number of different shops. While the prices are likely to vary slightly from store to store, it is not likely that they will be very expensive.

Buying rubber ducks or balls can allow you to offer a simple but, fun game. Mark each of the balls or ducks either with a color or a number to help you and the players to identify who owns which one. Instruct the children to swim as quickly as possible with the game piece. Tell the children they are not allowed to use their hands, only their feet to make the game piece move along the water.

Ice cube races are also a popular choice and are very budget friendly. Simply grab a bunch of ice out of your freezer and throw it into the swimming pool. In teams, have the children collect as many as they possibly can without letting the cubes melt. To make it more difficult, tell them that they are not allowed to use their hands to collect the ice cubes but, instead have to use their feet.

Older children might enjoy a water relay race. The concept is very simple, put your players into different teams and have them swim as quick as they can from one side of the pool to the other with an item of your choosing. The first team that has every member complete the task first is declared the winners of the relay.

Pool party games for kids should always be consider carefully and be based on the ages of the children that are attending the event. Always have adults on hand to help watch over the children. You will also want to set a limit of how many children can be in the pool at the same time, too many at once will make supervising them more difficult.
